Art Gallery Drop-In Tour: "Capturing the Inner Essence"

Chinese and Japanese portrait artists tried to present an image with an inner poetic reality rather than an outward likeness. Their technical approach to portraiture was simplicity, which was in sharp contrast to the photo-likeness of some Western paintings with their problems of volume, light shadow and texture.

Exhibition tours led by experienced Gallery Docents occur weekly, on Saturday and Sunday, plus the first Tuesday and fourth Thursday of the month. Tours are a great way to learn about art history, put our exhibitions into context, and delve deeper into the themes being presented. Included with Gallery admission or free with membership.
