Artists Support Ukraine
If you visit Sparrow Artspace you will notice some posters. Here is some information from #ArtistsSupportUkraine:
“Artists Support Ukraine calls on the entire world cultural community to speak out in support of Ukraine and become ambassadors of peace and justice. Since the first day of bombing in Ukraine, artists support Ukraine with their art. Ukrainian artists are giving huge support to our country every minute, trying to explain what’s happening in Ukraine right now through their own experience – wherever they are – defending, volunteering, hiding in bomb shelters. With their voices they are calling the whole world – Stand With Ukraine.
We believe in the power of art, because art can spread the idea of what is happening, can make people feel and react and support. We asked Ukrainian artists and illustrators to prepare artworks and posters supporting them with personal stories about the war – where they had been when war started, what are they doing now, what are their thoughts and wishes.”

Work by Olexandra Kovaleva @sasha.kovaleva_
November, 2021. Three months before the war.
Documentation of performance “Blood goes to earth”
Being eight months pregnant with her son, Kovaleva went to the war zone of Donbas to dig a very specific soil, the soil people fought and died for. Those bags of earth that she dug up, were sent to her own address by Ukrainian post–from Donbas to Kyiv. This soil was planned to be the part of installation of Kovaleva’s multimedia project “Fairytales”, a project dedicated to the war as an idea and consisted of a series of artworks that could not be finished now. The artists mentions that a Russian bomb may fall on her home any moment, destroying all her life and all her artworks.
