Asta Dale: Philosophical Thoughts
to
Red Deer Arts Council 110-4818 50 Avenue, Red Deer, Alberta T4N 4A3
Eight large colourful canvasses comprise this new exhibit by Calgary artist, Asta Dale. During her exploration of the effect of colour on our human psyche, Asta yearned to be able to share her philosophical thoughts. With the use of bright red, orange, yellow and sometimes blue, she adds her thoughts to the canvas through the written word. Single words on some of the canvasses depict ideas like hope, love and hate, balance, and diplomacy.
Through the intermix of words and colour, Asta believes that, “The emotional effect of colours, like red for passion and compassion, yellow for spirituality and orange for courage, effectively support us in dealing with the controversies in our existence.”
In her artist statement, Asta says, “This exhibition is about ‘Philosophical Thought’. We have Art to make us think about ‘Life’!” In this thought-provoking exhibit, she leads us to reflect on her theme but allows the visitors to develop their own interpretation of what life means to them. However, positivity is the highlight that strikes one the most. Asta is a very positive person and this exhibit focuses on positive feelings, but doesn’t neglect other darker emotions.
Asta believes that, “Each one of us has the capacity to contemplate and find meaning. Philosophers say that to find ‘oneself’ is of prime importance, because it gives us the aptitude to cope with life intelligently.” Visitors will find themselves spending time with the eight canvases as they delve into the thoughts and feelings behind each piece.
