iconic: archetypal, characteristic, exemplary, illustrative, quintessential, representative, stereotypical, symbolic
The theme for this year’s juried exhibit celebrates Canada’s 150th birthday. It will focus on artworks that reflect contemporary visions of Canadian identity. National identity is formed by history and geography: cultural influences by both indigenous and settler peoples, the size and location of our geography, the diverse forms of landscape and the plants and animals that cohabit that landscape – all contribute to what we understand to be uniquely Canadian. In the 21st century, looking forward, how do we define ourselves? And how can we express this in contemporary art forms? We invite your ideas, your insights, your submissions!
The Fort Gallery is a community-based, nonprofit, artist collective located in historic Fort Langley, the first capital of British Columbia.
