Gwen Fox Gallery - Canada 150 Mosaic
On September 22, members of Gwen Fox Gallery participated in "Canada 150 Mosaic" tile workshop. It is a national initiative designed to join together the diverse communities across the country in celebration of Canada’s 150 year anniversary. The power of this mural project lies in the fact that each individual tile tells its own story, and joins together to tell a larger community story, and by linking to telling the national story. Each mural shares the common features of an open rail car on tracks at the bottom, and blue sky at the top. There are approximately 5-15 communities per province and territory across Canada that will create their murals, and symbolically their section of the overall mural, which will connect Canada through art.
The Gallery’s 25 tiles were enthusiastically painted with a variety of beautiful themes emerging. Pizza was provided, coffee was brewed, and tea was steeped, to create a warm and friendly environment. Everyone pitched in to make the whole event run smoothly, including carrying in extra worktables to accommodate all participants. Other workshops will be held by the City of Selkirk to include other community members, from all walks of life.
Sincere thanks to all who created their art on a tile, and helped keep things running smoothly – Your help and participation was much appreciated by Joanie English, the coordinator, and by Irene Pohoreçka, the facilitator.
