CKG is pleased to announce the first in a series of guest curated exhibitions featuring our artists.
For this summer’s exhibition, renowned interior designer James McIntyre lends his creative eye to welcome two new artists to the gallery. A longtime supporter of the arts, James is the creative director of CKG and is known for thoughtfully integrating original art into his design projects. We invited James to apply his skill to the CKG stable and demonstrate how he would pair different artists to build a colour story for your home.
THE ARTISTS
Mike Binzer grew up in Calgary studying ballet and contemporary dance and went on to dance professionally with the Royal Winnipeg Ballet for two years before turning his attention to the visual arts. He holds a BFA from the Alberta College of Art + Design and an MFA from the University of Regina, and his work has been featured in a variety of exhibitions and publications in Canada and the United States. Through his study of dance, Mike has developed a unique insight into the human body which has continued to guide his art practice.
Verna Vogel was born in rural Ontario and currently lives and works in Calgary. She has studied art at Capilano University in North Vancouver, BC, and the Institut Seni Lukis Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur. Her work has been exhibited in group and solo shows in Western Canada and can be found in collections across Canada, the United States and Europe. Both delicate and bold, Verna’s abstract canvases are intricate studies of place—built from richly layered acrylic paint, thread and stitched elements.
