JoAnn Godenir loves to play with colour. Her geometric patterned and often segmented compositions effortlessly integrate soft pinks, bold blues and earthy umbers. Acrylic paint is layered on, sections are sanded back and painted over again - repeat - creating a seductively smooth surface. JoAnn approaches painting with a mix of joy and fear, sucuuming to her process as each evolve.
Agata Wojtowicz’s “Nucci Collection” is a tongue in cheek installation exploring branding, marketing and trend within the art world. Her presentation of video and objects allow viewers insight into the process of how we create value for commodities (such as art). The viewer is invited to go back and forth within her carefully crafted spaces, inviting us to examine the connection between what is marketed to us as valuable, and the origins of how it is made.
This year’s edition of CHROMA has an emphasis on experimentation and play, featuring quirky tatooed kewpies by Karrie Arthurs, bold experimental abstractions by Teresa Posyniak, innovative large-scale photos by Julya Hajnoczky, pattern exploration from Lisa Matthias, and new work by Carl White, Kevin Boyle & Madeleine Lamont. With paintings, drawings, sculptures, and prints, there is something for everyone in this playful summer exhibition.
As we ease into Stage 3 : Masks are still mandatory in the gallery until the bylaw is repealed by City Council. Please be respectful of everyone’s personal space and individual protocol choices as we all adapt to the transition. THANK YOU!
