Cristy Rusnell is a self-taught photographer practicing in Central Alberta. Cristy developed a passion for the natural world at a young age during family trips. Camping, fishing and exploring all over British Columbia and Alberta. She started taking photographs in middle school where she learned darkroom photography. It's there her passion flourished. Using disposable and film cameras were her go to for many years until buying her first DSLR in 2015 for a trip to Mexico. She found inspiration from National Geographic magazines and photography books of the greats, Ansel Adams and Steve McCurry; always drawn to natures shapes, colors, textures and movements. Alberta's seasons, landscapes and wildlife have provided a perfect backdrop for her photographic art.
Artist Statement:
My passion for photography and the images I create are the expression of my love for my home. Central Alberta has been my muse for many years. Documenting our natural world and the animals that we share this beautiful land with.
Revisiting the same locations throughout each season year after year has allowed me to study and photograph the patterns, habits and behaviors of so many animals. So much of my time has been spent with wild horses in the eastern slopes. The migratory birds that briefly call our lakes, rivers and ponds home. Or the Moose who frequent the same areas year after year and have allowed me a brief glimpse into their world.
