Dana Buzee, "Bruise Me Softly," 2018
Exhibition Opening Reception Friday, June 1, 2018 @ 8PM - 12AM
BRUISE ME SOFTLY by Dana Buzzee is a frank, autobiographical exploration of queer identity and sexuality. Looking to the practice of witchcraft as a framework for creating art, BRUISE ME SOFTLY presents a collection of works that create an activated site of sex-positivity focused on queer femme narratives of ‘deviance’. Buzzee’s current research on the rich lineage of leatherdyke printed matter and erotica created in the 80s and 90s is quoted throughout the exhibition, honouring and building on the tradition of printed matter generated by counter-culture communities, while reflecting their own current queer feminist politics.
Dana Buzzee is an interdisciplinary visual artist and curator currently based in Calgary, they obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Alberta College of Art and Design in 2012. Since graduating Buzzee has enjoyed several national and international residencies as well as local and national exhibitions. For the past two consecutive years Buzzee has acted as the Visual Arts Curator for Femme Wave Feminist Arts Festival in Calgary. Most recently Buzzee opened The Lily, a new project space in Calgary, with their solo exhibition: FEMME TOP OF YOUR DREAMS.
