Printmaking has the freedom and flexibility to explore personal themes in ways that representational painting may not. By using the press, forms are simplified with a greater focus on design elements of value, texture, and overall composition. By limiting the colour palette, the viewer is required to focus on the subtlety of the invented textures and the simplicity of the spheres and elliptical shapes; what do these forms represent? Layer upon layer of texture is built up just as layer upon layer of sediment is laid down. Soft muted colours are used so as not to detract from the overall harmonious composition. There are only slight variations in the print series … a shift in placement of one form, the application of subtlety different textures. The aim is an atmospheric interpretation of the land which will remind viewers of the fragility of our natural environs. - Suzan Berwald
