Soldier of Life: Exhibition of Works by Denis Kleine opens on Thursday, November 3rd from 5:30pm - 8:00pm.
We talked to Denis in-depth about the exhibition Soldier of Life which has a complex, intertwined meaning that he best summarized by saying 'Life is like a battle that we prepare ourselves for every day. Whether we are aware of it or not, we are also aided, guided, and directed by spiritual forces.'
On opening night Denis will be giving a talk about this exhibition at Hambleton Galleries at 6:00pm. He will also be available to ask questions and to discuss the meaning behind the exhibition, his process of creation and his works in general for the rest of the opening night. Refreshments will be served.
Denis Kleine sculpts out of his studio in Nelson, BC. He works predominantly in stone and bronze. He relishes in transforming the hard and cold properties of stone and bronze to expose the sense of warmth and calm he sees in these materials. It is the challenge of this transformation that he uses as a guiding light for his working process.
Denis obtained a BFA from David Thompson University Centre. He is currently teaching at Kootenay School of the Arts in Nelson, BC and is a member of the Sculptors Society of Canada. Denis Kleine has public works in Kelowna, most notably 'The Working Man' located on the corner of St Paul and Bernard and 'Treescape' which consists of two large marble sculptures on the corner of Bernard and Water. His works are also part of many public and private collections worldwide.
The stone sculptures created by Denis are noted for their incredible smoothness, symmetry and precision despite works being carved out of difficult and very hard stones. His bronze works can be stand alone pieces or used to support his stone works. All of Denis' works have deeper meaning or sensation to them than their immediate beauty.
