In the desert, alien creatures and strange scrabbly flora spring defiantly from the earth. Unapologetic, fearless and slowly growing. Waves of sand blow through the ages, shaping the terrain. The desert with its isolation and loneliness, dark nights and starry skies, is a place where we as humans go to find our shadows and explore our inner selves.

Drawn to California’s Mojave Desert and Algodones Sand Dunes, Barbara Blakey O’Brien uses the camera as a translator to invite us in to this world. The show is part of the Exposure Photography Festival.
