Devenir: Abundance
to
Kiwanis Gallery at Red Deer Public Library 4818 49 Street (lower level), Red Deer, Alberta T4N 1T9
First Friday Opening: September 7 from 6 to 8 pm. Artists will be in attendance.
DEVENIR presents a collection of paintings created by its members; Danièle Petit, Doris Charest, Karen Blanchet, Patricia Lortie and Sabine Lecorre-Moore. The work flows through the colour wheel using an “Abundance” of tones and subtle differences, to reveal the intimate language of the artists' voices.
ABUNDANCE is series of the artists’ individual paintings created as a response to the following quotation by Georgia O'Keeffe: “I found I could say things with colors that I couldn't say in any other way - things that I had no words for”.
Even with today’s advanced technologies in communication, creating colourful imagesremains a powerful tool. Colour is the essence of our collective consciousness. Devenir seeks to connect with primitive emotions that are locked in our visual surroundings, both natural and urban, and our life experiences. They expose those emotions through colour conversations in their paintings.
Devenir: French verb meaning “transitioning from one state to another”
DEVENIR is a five-person collective made up of Francophone artists living and working in Edmonton and Calgary. As a collective, the artists support each other’s projects and shareideas. Individually these established artists enjoy a personal understanding of their own focus; each member brings to the table an abundant universe of emotions, artistic techniques and knowledge of the art world. Their activities cover individual studio practice, collective art making and career development. Together they strive to further enrich their practices. The collective DEVENIR is an experiment in provoking focus, challenging visions and opening doors.
