"EARTH": the annual juried ‘Discovery’ exhibition for new and emerging artists
to
Seymour Art Gallery 4360 Gallant Avenue, North Vancouver, British Columbia V7G 1L2
Opening Reception and Awards Presentation: Tuesday January 8, 7-9pm
Poetry Meets Art: A Reading of Poetry Inspired by the Exhibition: Sunday January 27, 2pm
Our annual discovery juried exhibition provides exposure to emerging artists. The jurors, artist Michael Abraham, Seymour Art Gallery’s curator Sarah Cavanaugh, and artist Liane McLaren Varnam and have selected 26 artworks. Each has created a piece that reflects our theme: EARTH. The result is a fresh and eclectic show, with the artists presenting work that is as varied as their backgrounds; encompassing painting, ceramics, glass, mixed media, and photography. One artist will be presented with the Carole Badgley Emerging Artist Award, with a cash prize of $300 furnished by the SAG, and honourable mentions will receive prizes donated by Opus Art Supplies and Kroma Acrylics. Prize-winning artists will be selected by former Seymour Art Gallery curator Carole Badgley.
Featured artists: Barbara Arnold, Larissa Blokhuis, Maya Bowering, Meghan Carich, Paula Carlsen, Kristin Charleton, Linda Coe, Dorothy Doherty, Zack Embree, Denise Gasser, Suzanne Goodwin, Ann Hamm, Druh Ireland, Diane Isherwood, Jennie Johnston, Vanessa Lam, Shelly Leroux, Carole Lyne Lussier, Talia McManus, Gale More O'Ferrall, Sarah Northcott, Jennifer Skillen, Jose Antonio Tan, Melanie Thompson, J. Roland Vetter, and Kate Whitehead.
Join us for a “Poetry Meets Art” event on Sunday January 27 at 2pm. Award winning poet Fran Bourassa will host an afternoon of poetry inspired by the paintings. Featured poets include local writers. Audience members can participate by reciting their own exhibition-influenced poems during the ‘open mic’ portion of the afternoon. Drop by and get inspired!
The Seymour Art Gallery is a non-profit, public gallery located in the heart of Deep Cove, North Vancouver. Admission is free of charge.
