Elijah Wells, "Dialogue with a Bone Teacup," 2019
Artist Reception: Friday, February 28, 2020, 5:30PM - 8:30 pm
The exhibition is a result of continuing my research into Blackfoot story archives such as winter counts and story robes. This investigation in my cultural background is also an exploration discovery of Blackfoot visual language. The exhibit “Dialogue With a Bone Teacup” expands on my installation “Bison Teacup”. The original installation will be set up in the gallery, and the resulting work will have transformed the installation as a result of visual culture research, spatial research, and archival research. This is a dialogue between the world that royalty had created on the backs of Indigenous people, but also the backs of the Bison. The fact that they almost wiped out the bison is terrifying and yet not enough discussion happens around how this has effected Blackfoot people. - Elijah Wells
