In Embodiment, Mahwish Ahmed explores the notion of identity through the infinite unveiling of paths that resonate with a spiritual pilgrimage. Through a mesmerizing exploration of paths reminiscent of a spiritual pilgrimage, Mahwish's creations unravel the layers of existence, inadvertently touching upon the realm of chronic illness even prior to her Multiple Sclerosis diagnosis. Through the work, she shares her personal journey to establish connections with others. With a process-based approach, her works engage viewers in reflecting upon their own journeys.
Embodiment is the inaugural exhibition for Prospect's 'Piece of Mind' Artist Spotlight Series, funded in part by the City of Calgary’s Arts and Culture Microgrant Program. In this series we work with emerging artists and art groups to explore the topics of inclusion, community, mental health, and wellness in hopes of breaking societal stigmas and highlighting stories of overcoming barriers through art.
