Emily Neufeld is an Alberta-born artist, now living and working on the unceded territory of the Squamish, Tsleil-Waututh and Musqueam in North Vancouver. Neufeld’s practice investigates place, and how humans change and are changed by the surrounding environment.
In 2018, Neufeld traveled through the Prairies to investigate abandoned farmhouses built by settler migrants in the 19th century. Once onsite, she responded intuitively, working with natural and human-made materials she found in and around the houses to create sculptures. Before leaving, she documented her actions in photographs. Prairie Invasions: A Hymn is a call to love and respect your community while also, out of that same love, hold them accountable.
