The Futility Index series is based on the limitations of physical balance. It explores scientific, political, and philosophical approaches to considering literal and figurative distributions of weight. 

Emily’s intention for capturing these visual representations of balance is to consider unusual methods of innovation as a catalyst for complex problem-solving. Her compositions inspire an appreciation for instability, equilibrium, and absurdity. The philosophical narrative within the context of the series relates to physical and intellectual notions of balance and how they can represent justice, companionship, or synergy.

Balancing disparate components harmoniously is Emily’s artistic metaphor for the acceptance of coexistence and for the necessity of individual parts to stabilize a whole.
