Encounters with the Self and the Triumph of Misery with Ihor Holubizky
to
Art Gallery of Alberta 2 Winston Churchill Square, Edmonton, Alberta T5J 2C1
October 23, 6:30pm-7:30pm
The certainties that we bring to topics in art and culture can be wobbled by inherent and embraced contradictions. Thinking artists forever encounter the self, and the triumph is knowing what misery offers. In this talk, Ihor Holubizky, Curator of the exhibition "Living Building Thinking": Art and Expressionism at the AGA, will present ruminations and reflections of our world and of the works in the exhibit — Expressionism as an attitude more than a style. Ihor Holubizky is the Senior Curator at the McMaster Museum of Art. He has held curatorial positions across Canada and in Australia, and has lectured and contributed writing internationally on a range of visual and cultural topics. Holubizky received his PhD in art history from the University of Queensland.
