Colour is all around us and part of everything we see. It can make us feel warm or cool or experience different emotions. Using the base of three colours, Lily Corinne Anderton explores the nature of colour and how it behaves in her paintings. Using the colour wheel as her driving force, she plays with colours’relationship to each other. The final works form abstract images that feel dynamic, reflective and exciting. This is an exhibit that makes one wonder about our own perceived responses to colour and how it affects our life.
These paintings reflect that at this stage of my artistic life, colour and paint interactions are everything. I am enthralled with the fact that I can take any three tubes of paint – one red, one blue, and one yellow - add water, start throwing them at the paper in various combinations, and never get the same effect twice. It would seem that an endless array of colours can be generated from just those simple three primary colours – and for me, this is an end unto itself. Then, there is the miracle of how the pigments interact with each other – some are downright dominant, pushing submissiveothers around. Look closely; you’ll see evidence of this everywhere in the paintings. – Corinne Anderton (excerpt)
