Faces in Different Places by Kris Row

Cre8ery Gallery & Studio 2-125 Adelaide St, Corner of William, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3A 0W4
My work relates mainly to the experiences I have had in my life, both good and bad. An element of humour, sometimes warped, can usually be seen in most of my pieces. I do not paint picturesof cute little baby ducks, and snuggly little cats that can be hung three feet above the bathroomtoilet. Each painting tells a story and had a definite reason why I painted it. Even when I have been down emotionally I can find humour in my situation. The colours within my works are usually bold as most works are experiences that have beenstriking to me. I can close my eyes and remember many of the places and faces where I havebeen. Others from my “DENTIST’S JOURNEY THROUGH HELL” are strictly from myimagination, often surprising myself.–Born in Smiths Falls, Ontario and moved to Winnipeg for a masters degree in science( cranial facial growth and anatomy) and specialty in orthodontics in 1988. He has two children, Kendall and Dylan, two dogs, Punch and Judy and a motorcycle named Marg (Mother’s name). The combination of the study of the human face and the warped senseof humour is the focus of his works of art.
Kris has exhibited both in the United States ( Fort Lauderdale ) and in China (Beijing). InWinnipeg he has exhibited at the Centennial Concert, Medea Gallery and local artshows. He is a member of the Manitoba Society of Artists and the Assiniboine Group ofArtists where he exhibits at the Art Expo each fall. His paintings have been included intwo books about the Winnipeg Goldeyes and Winnipeg Jets, as well as the CanadianDental Journal, November, 2005. In 2011, Kris journeyed to China on sabbatical where he taught orthodontics part time and travelled the interior by train, drawing, painting and studying the people and the language. On his Chinese themed works, his Chinesename can be seen in the red rectangle, painted in white characters. ‘Long Bing’ is hisZhongwen mingzi (Chinese name) which was given to him by his fellow teammates ofthe Beijing International Ice Hockey League. ‘Long’ means dragon and ‘bing’ means ice:Ice Dragon.
His favourite medium is acrylic though he does some oil as well as figurative claysculpting. Favourite past times besides painting include motorcycling, playing hockey and walking his two dogs.
