Ian Carter, "Gardenscapes"
Poster by Sonia Bishop.
Reception: September 22, 4-7pm
Ian is fascinated by the forms, colours and serendipity of watercolours. He has a taste and understanding for offbeat and complex subjects that are often linked to landscape scenes. Some of Ian's favorite themes include reflections of light, shadows, colours and ordinary outdoor scenes or fleeting memories, some of which evoke memories of wonderland. Some of Ian's favourite themes include light shining off water or fleeting memories, some of which evoke nostalgia. Ian likes directing the viewer around his paintings using contrasts and the simplicity of shapes and design. Shadow implies light and emphasizes the composition of the painting: it gives strength. The colour vibrates, intersperses, or superimposes itself on these areas of contrast. With the aid of photographic images, Ian shows his method of progression, step by step, along with the many tips and demonstrations of his watercolour techniques.
