Gathie Falk: Revelations is presented by Glenbow at The Edison.
Revelations is an impressive collection of art created by well-known Canadian artist Gathie Falk, spanning more than 50 years.
Floating cabbages, glossy apples, grapefruits, cherries, flower beds and the night sky explode with playful and whimsical colours. Embracing the simplicity of everyday objects, Falk invites audiences to see the world with curiosity and wonder.
A visionary and experimental artist, Falk covers a wide range of art forms including video, sculpture, ceramics, painting and performance art.
About the Artist:
Gathie Falk is one of Canada’s most respected and beloved artists. She received international recognition for her paintings, ceramic sculptures and pioneering work in installation and performance art.
Born in Manitoba to Mennonite parents, she moved to Vancouver in her early teens and became a teacher. From humble beginnings, she experimented with two- and three-dimensional art.
At 95, her expansive work covers a range of mediums. Playful, vibrant and highlighting the importance of the ordinary, Falk embraces imperfection, texture and personal meaning in her art.
She is a winner of the 2013 Audain Prize for Lifetime Achievement in the Visual Arts, a recipient of the Order of Canada, the Gershon Iskowitz Prize, the Order of British Columbia and the Governor General’s Award in Visual Arts.
