Summit Series – Artist Statement
“Nature is omnipresent in my paintings. The natural realm provides balance to our busy lives and I want to invite the viewer into this world on my canvas. My paintings provide respite from the frantic pace of modern life.
Since I spent a lot of time outdoors in the mountains in summer and winter, I have a lot plein air studies and sketches to work from in the studio. I need to remember how the air felt, how the light and the mood was in the moment.
I feel very free as an artist. I do whatever I want when I want to do it. I work a lot, put in many hours but it never feels like work.
Mountains are my inspiration. I love the Lake O’Hara region in the Rockies and my original home in the Bavarian Alps, the gentle landscapes around the Chiemsee. I am also very fond of the French Alps, especially the Mont Blanc area and Chamonix.
This series is called the Summit Series because of the viewpoint. My hope is you get lost in my paintings and forget whatever occupies your mind for a little while.” Gisa Mayer
