Guy Roy "L'Hiver a Charlevoix"
Guy Roy "L'Hiver a Charlevoix" 30" x 36" Oil on Canvas
In 1982 Guy Roy discovered painting by chance. He studied at the Atelier Raymond Lachance in Thetford Mines for a period of four years and went on to study at the Moulin Des Arts in Saint-Etienne de Lauzon under Marcel Rousseau.
Guy is first and foremost a landscape artist who enjoys painting on site in the Amiante and Charlevoix regions. Through painting, Guy discovered a previously unknown and fascinating world. “The more I paint,” says Guy, “the more I love painting.” He adds, “The stronger the contrasts, the more the light explodes. One must dare, and, foremost, one must paint to please oneself. Through painting I discovered a form of expression that fits me.”
Guy is never finished making discoveries. “Painting is a constant endeavor. You must overcome your fears, develop your spontaneity, and most of all you must take risks and accept your errors.” Guy's passion is poured into his landscapes: light, vibrant colours, contrasts and grand canvases characterize his bold style.
