Heather Horton "Leviathan" 2014 oil on canvas, 36" x 48"
A Sea Change is an act of transformation, "A change brought about by the sea" according to Merriam-Webster. It is a metamorphosis. All of these paintings have been completed in the last few months, months which have been peaceful, turbulent and heartbreaking as well. They are a small mix of poignant images that are very personal in some cases. They are a symbols of lessons learned and connections made and lost. They are the last few months of my life on canvas.
The reference for the painting Leviathan was taken at the Canada Games Centre, after being granted permission to shoot photographs after the facility had closed. I am thankful to Robert Postma for helping me with the photographic reference for this piece. Swimming feels how I imagine flying would feel...this painting is about trying to capture that feeling.
Ontario-born Heather Horton's show will also feature a commissioned portrait of world famous explorer Ranulph Fiennes, recently completed by Heather. The piece will be on view in the show before being sent to Sir Ranulph in England. The show will also feature brand new paintings.
