Hiking Through Rough Country
to
Art Gallery of Alberta 2 Winston Churchill Square, Edmonton, Alberta T5J 2C1
October 3, 1pm-2pm
Get an inside look at the creation of the exhibit "Rough Country": The strangely familiar in mid-20th century Alberta art. Exhibition curators Ruth Burns and Mary-Beth Laviolette lead a tour of the exhibition to discuss their research and selected works. Opening the same day, Rough Country reflects on the connections between mid-20th century Alberta artists and artistic practice throughout Europe and North America. Featuring artists Maxwell Bates, Laura Evans Reid, John Snow, W.L. Stevenson and Dorothy Henzell Willis, the exhibition steps away from the ideals of rural prosperity in Alberta and focuses on some of the more unsettling imagery of a post-war province.
