The Gallery at CASA, "Inside Out and Summer Salon," 2021
The Artist in Residence (AiR) Program at Casa has seen the return of artists working in the art studios spending focused time on their art practice.
Lauren Morris began working in the studio at Casa shortly after the building re-opened to the public. Morris has been painting in the 2D Studio on exploring what it means to work at the blurred intersection of personal mythos and family histories. Joy Wong joins Casa this August interrogating notions of accumulation and the shifting nature of the body. During their residency, Joy looks to engage with traces of the public via foot traffic, allowing incidental marks to build up on the surface of printmaking plates. Drop by the Open House on Saturday and talk to the artists and learn more about the process of art.
“The AiR Program was completely on hold while the building was closed and it’s exciting to have artists back in the building and creating such innovative works.” enthuses Education Manager, Katie Bruce. “These artists are incredibly inspiring.”
Artist in Residence (AiR) Open House: Saturday, August 14 at 6:00pm to 8:00pm
2D Studio and Printmaking Studio
The Inside Out Summer Salon features the artwork of over 70 artists at Casa. With lockdowns affecting public access to the building in the first half of 2021, The Gallery at Casa’s curator, Darcy Logan, began to build an exhibition that could be viewed without entering the building. As restrictions lifted, the non-thematic, juried show grew with Lethbridge artists submitting work in droves. There are 5 shadowbox pieces affixed to the flagpoles, 2 installations in the Artist Kiosks and works throughout the galleries in side Casa. Not wanting to tempt fate, the show proceeded without an exhibition opening but a closing celebration has been planned now that restrictions have eased.
“As summer draws to a close, I feel it’s important to celebrate these artists that created despite the pandemic and have shared their work with the community.” - Curator Darcy Logan.
INSIDE OUT Summer Salon Closing Celebration: Saturday, August 14 at 7:00pm to 9:00pm
These two events overlap allowing visitors to meet with artists and take their time with the art. Casa tours will be available for those wanting to see behind the scenes at Casa. Meet with artists, ask questions and feel inspired. A cash bar will be available. Entrance to The Gallery at Casa is FREE and embraces visitors that might not necessarily know a lot about art but are very curious about creativity.
INSIDE-OUT
Throughout and outside of Casa The Gallery at Casa is excited to announce our celebratory re-opening exhibition, INSIDE-OUT. This exhibition takes place on Rotary Square, as well as in the various exhibition spaces throughout Casa. Inside the facility, we are hosting the SUMMER SALON, a group exhibition featuring 66 artists presenting work as diverse as painting, printmaking, sculpture and photography. On Rotary Square, the INSIDE-OUT KIOSK PROJECT sees 2 artists realizing installations in our modified containers for artists. Attached to the flag poles facing 8th Street are 5 shadow box dioramas, each distinctly modified and created by local artists.
Inside-Out is a remarkable exhibition that brings together a spectrum of the Lethbridge arts community. There are creations from teens, pieces by emerging artists, and works by nationally respected professional artists. Stop by to celebrate this exhibition by our diverse, local artists.
Casa is free to visit, and the public is welcome and encouraged to explore the summer exhibition of Inside-Out.
