Deborah Morriss, "Untitled," papier maché
In this body of work Deborah Morriss has moved away from her training as a ceramist to explore the flexibility of working in papier maché. Morris’ biomorphic vessels are inspired by natural forms: plants, insects, marine life. These elemental objects evoke fossilized shells, insect husks, seed pods, as the artist has stated:
“interior spaces where perhaps something had lived and emerged from, or which had once housed internal organs… my aim is for each piece to resonate with its own personality, to convey a sense of having participated in a world independent of human interference.”
