Admission $15 (19+)
The Alternator Centre for Contemporary Art is approaching its next student-led exhibition a little differently.
As part of the Intermission series that sees students from UBCO’s Visual Arts course take over the main gallery space in between major exhibitions, the upcoming Intermission Interrupted is aiming to shake up the traditional gallery opening. Featuring live installations by three UBCO artists, Draw by Night activities, refreshments from Kelowna’s own Kettle River Brewing and a performance by popular local band Speak Easy, the event will act as a membership drive and fundraiser for Alternator activities.
Intermission Interrupted is organized by Intermission coordinator Shayla Ritchie and the Alternator’s UBCO intern Evan Berg. Recognizing the need for arts events focused on Kelowna’s university population, they have brought together a selection of top emerging local artists to showcase the rich creative potential of our creative community. Visual artists Victoria Moore, Tyler Dellebuur and Alecia Dyck will create live installations in the space using painting, printmaking and drawing, while Rachel Mercer will showcase a collection of collage works in the Members Gallery, supplemented by a participatory collage mural. The event takes place at the Alternator Centre for Contemporary Art on February 24, 7-10:30pm. Tickets are $15. This is a 19+ event.
