Lougheed House is excited to be working with the Red Deer Museum + Art Gallery and Curator Mary Beth Laviolette to present James Agrell Smith: A Broader Picture – Drawings, Paintings and Original Prints. Born in Stettler, Alberta in 1913, James Agrell Smith was recognized as a master of engraving in post-war Canada. He excelled in many media including oil on canvas, watercolour, charcoal, sumi ink and graphite. A navy veteran and local postal employee, he was a self-taught artist, which makes his legacy and contribution to Canadian art all the more remarkable.
March 14- June 15th, 2014.
