Janna Watson: Blue Moon, Blue Ocean
The inimitable Toronto-based artist Janna Watson delves into the depths of space above and ocean below with a new series of lively and sophisticated abstract compositions. Clusters of purposefully placed gestural strokes in elegant earthy and pearly tones float against backgrounds of velvety navy, suggestive of the enveloping embrace of primordial darkness. Balanced by Janna’s signature poetic titles, these works are suffused with equal parts thoughtful introspection and lightness of being.
Watson holds an honours degree in Drawing and Painting from the Ontario College of Art and Design and has exhibited extensively nationally and internationally in more than 20 solo exhibitions. Her work has appeared in notable public collections including those of TD Bank, CIBC, Nordstrom, Telus, the Ritz-Carlton, ONi ONE, the Soho Metropolitan Hotel, and Saks Fifth Avenue. In 2013, she was commissioned to create an impressive, 11 x 31-foot painting for the lobby of AURA, Canada’s tallest residential building.
