Jean Marshall and Christian Chapman, "Artist Talk," Invitation
ARTIST TALK: Jean Marshall and Christian Chapman Thursday, April 27, 7:00 – 8:30 pm. No charge.
Casa welcomes the first artists in residence hosted through the ATB First Nations Residency Program and Grant. The recipients are Jean Marshall and Christian Chapman.
Both Artists are recognized in their area of expertise, combining their skills and ideas to offer a new perspective of what it means for them to express themselves freely and creatively. The work will infuse their relationship with Northern Ontario and Southern Alberta. Their Ahnishinabe heritage will be represented by the beadwork and their love for Alberta will be shown through imagery using landscapes and landmarks, creating a sense of place and their relationship within it.
Jean Marshall will prepare bead work designs that will then be translated into four large scale prints. Christian Chapman being a finessed painter/printmaker will mentor Jean through the process. Jean will be using images of her beadwork to incorporate into the imagery of the prints. Christian is known as a storyteller through his work, together it will be their story. Components of this will be incorporated into the development and creation of their new work.
They both look forward to this residency as it is their first collaborative project. They have spoke of this work for years…the time is now. They both have a love for the land and sky in Alberta. They have a direct tie to the Lethbridge area with relatives and they visit annually. They were excited to learn about Casa during their last visit and both felt that it would be the ideal place to create a body of work.
Please consult the calendar for a series of free workshops provided by the artists in their disciplines.
