Jeanne Byron
My inspiration for this body of work was the name of my grandson’s favourite tune…. It just kept playing over and over again in my mind as I worked in my studio… until I realized it was the theme I was looking for.
In relation to people, the phrase, ‘true colours’ refers to an individual’s core values – the essential, basic elements that motivate us. Does that phrase apply to art? What are the essential, basic elements of painting?
As I worked on this series of paintings, I asked myself: How much can I simplify the shapes, lines, textures and colours and still create visual interest and excitement?
With this goal in mind, I set out on my adventure to discover the possibilities – what could I create, what surprises would I encounter, what resistances would show up, and what would intuitively present itself? Could I express myself with and without colour? What would that look like? Would it resonate with me?
The first series I completed was of black and white paintings (with a touch of red for spice). These paintings are my visual answer to those questions – simple, minimalist, and thought provoking images that challenge our sense of what makes us connect to our most basic selves– our own “true colours”.
“….So don’t be afraid to let them show throughYour true colours are beautiful…..”from the song, True Colors by Anna Kendrick, Justin Timberlake

Biography
Throughout Jeanne Byron’s professional career as a corporate mediator, she continued to explore art: painting, drawing, pottery, photography, textiles. Playtime with her sons was often creative time – making gifts, jewellery, sewing projects – you name and we tried it.
Jeanne loves the challenge of painting abstractly because it demands that she let go of trying to replicate the outer world and opens the door to connecting with her ‘self’ and her inner world.
She loves the idea of my art connecting with others, tickling your curiosity, sparking your imagination, and encouraging you to listen to your own creative spirit.
Her mission is to create and sell original paintings throughout the world, to people who have a bold, energetic, creative spirit, who are drawn to thought-provoking images that capture the imagination and resonate with your inner self.
