Newzones is pleased to announce Wild Men, a solo exhibition by Saskatoon-based artist Jeff Nachtigall. Wild Men will run in conjunction with Oh, Canada: Contemporary Art from North America, organized by the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art. This major American exhibition celebrates the vast and vibrant Canadian contemporary art scene. It will show across multiple venues in Calgary beginning February 2015 and boasts the largest survey of Canadian contemporary art ever produced outside of Canada.

Post painterly abstraction and hard edge painting meet pop art and expressionism in Wild Men. The figures are as much self-portraits as they are explorations into process, material and mark making. The tropes of Modernism are playfully incorporated into clip art, cartoons, still lifes and landscapes. As the nameimplies, the key characteristic of the wild man is his wildness. “Civilized" population regarded wild men as beings of the wilderness, and as such represent the antithesis of civilization.

Born in Saskatchewan, Jeff Nachtigall received his Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Regina, Saskatchewan in 1993, and completed one year of his Master's degree in printmaking at Illinois State University. Nachtigall has been awarded several artist residencies including the University of Regina, Banff Centre for the Arts and the Saskatoon Health Region. He has exhibited widely across Canada and his artwork can be found in many private and public collections, including the Alberta Foundation of the Arts and the City of Regina, to name a few.
