Jennifer Wanner, "Periculum - Canada," 2015
hand cut ink jet paper collage on Stonehenge paper, 38.75"x24.5"
Reception: March 16, 4 – 6 pm
In "Second Nature", Wanner explores western concepts of nature through collages and stop-motion animated video. The exhibition includes Wanner’s “Periculum” series in which the artist downloads and prints digital images of parts of endangered plants from the Internet database and then hand collages the components to appear as a single organism. The final works resemble 19th Century botanical drawings and, at first glance, they can seem like actual plants. There are 14 collages – one for each province and territory as well as one for Canada: this exhibition is presented to coincide with the 150th anniversary of the Confederation of Canada and to spark discussion about the future of our environment and our country.
