"Captivating"
Shosh Shalev Minuk, "Captivating," mixed media.
Shosh Shalev-Minuk’s dynamic paintings are vibrant and vivid visual renderings of sound, motion, and emotion transformed into shape and colour by her creative imagining and informed with her love of life, music, and dance.
“My work is an extension of my personality; emerging from my inner self, from my heart-felt belief and faith, it represents and reflects my passion for life—for love and happiness, for energy and spirituality—what I believe is the essence of existence.”
Shosh Shalev-Minuk, was born and raised in Haifa, Israel. She has made Winnipeg her second home since 1981. Working as Executive Director for Israel Bonds Canada and teaching Israeli Folk Dancing were not enough for Shosh, so she found an outlet for her boundless creative energies in art classes at the local community center and then at the Winnipeg Art Gallery Studio. Encouraged by family and fans, Shosh pursued her interest in art at the University of Manitoba where she successfully earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 2009.
Drawing inspiration from such great masters as Marc Chagall, Wassily Kandinsky, Emil Nolde, and Yossi Stern, to name only a few, Shosh developed her own distinctive technique of painting. Shosh’s unique style pulses with life; this fullness and feeling of life defines her art in multiple mediums, including watercolor, ink, pastel, acrylic, oil, and fused glass, as well as in photography and digital painting.
Shosh believes that sharing her art is an important part of her role as an artist. She has donated her art to different organizations, such as the Canadian Cancer Society, the Canadian Diabetes Association, and the Rady Jewish Community Center, to help with their fundraisers.
