Julie Oh’s artistic practice considers found objects as powerful vessels for the human experience: mortality, labor, faith and freedom. The Saskatoon-based artist works from the realm of the everyday, initiating a period of sustained engagement with collected materials. Oh works instinctually by allowing each installation of objects to hold space within the gallery, offering an entanglement of conceptual readings that address the aura of their presence.
Recent solo exhibitions of her work include lines (2018) as part of the RBC Emerging Artist Series at Remai Modern; Your Hog Has Arrived (2019) at PAVED Arts; and Tunnel, Air, Mother (2019) at Dunlop Art Gallery. She holds an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where she studied as a Fulbright Scholar, and a BFA from the University of Saskatchewan.
