Gossamer and Ground is the first solo exhibition by Kellwood-based artist Kathy Levandoski in the Main Gallery.
The 2021 Grand National Fibre Art Exhibition is a stunning display of textile art from across Canada that explores the concept of what it means to be at a “Crossroads”. Crossroads is the first touring exhibition from Grand National and will feature 48 textile, quilt, mixed media, and recycled fibre art pieces juried by Tracey Aubin, Debora Barlow, and Judy Villett interpreting the theme of the same name.

Kathy Levandoski’s works use textile and mixed media to interpret her surroundings. Deeply connected to the place that is her home on the eastern edge of Riding Mountain, MB, she is interested in capturing and containing the immensity and constant fluctuations of the sky above her and the profound age and topography of the escarpment beneath her. Levandoski says, “Just as my environment has been my cradle for most of my life - a comfort, a constant - I want the viewer to sense the same solace and awe."
Levandoski received her Bachelor of Fine Arts honours degree from Brandon University in 2014, and has been featured at the AGSM in the 2016 Community Gallery exhibition Riding the Edge. Kathy values both learning and personal growth to foster her creativity in rural settings. She is the driving force behind several ongoing creative ventures in her community.
The AGSM will host an opening reception for the joint exhibitions that will take place at 7:00 PM on September 22nd,followed by a tour and public conversation with Levandoski and AGSM curator Lucie Lederhendler on Friday, September 23rd at 1:00 PM.
The public is also invited to drop-in on Wednesdays between 1 and 2 PM for a tour of the Main Gallery or a by-appointment guided tour on Saturdays, for families or groups of up to ten individuals. The exhibitions continue through to November 12, 2022.
