Kelsie Balehowsky: Sensorineural
Sensorineural is a sculptural installation inspired by artist Kelsie Balehowsky’s son who was born with sensorineural hearing loss. This site-specific sculpture consists of a large-scale, representational model of the inner ear, vinyl that activates the glass window itself, and an interactive component that explores the complications of invisible disability.
Kelsie Balehowsky is an artist and arts educator based in the Okanagan on the unceded and ancestral territory of the Syilx people. Kelsie’s work is primarily concerned with themes of the uncanny, technology, and connection. Kelsie believes art is a powerful tool for education and communication. Her artistic practice is a means to observe, express, interpret, and process the world around her.
