Lee Nielsen: Commanding Heights
Themes of idolatry, reverence, power and wealth are explored in Nielsen’s ‘Commanding Heights’, which is a series of contemporary painted portraits in the style of religious iconography. Figures are set against gold leaf halos, but are representations of an iconic business class that is revered in contemporary culture. These richly layered paintings are oil on wood, with patterned and engraved gilded halos.
