In her new body of work, Vancouver’s Lindsay McIntyre uses blended technologies to mimic a Zoom call with the historical matriarch of her Inuit family who, in the early years of the 20^th century, experienced an abundance of cultures, having lived between the North and South. McIntyre’s talented grandmother, Kumaa’naaq, spoke English, French and Inuktitut and worked as a translator for the RCMP. Ironically, European explorer and ethnologist Knud Rasmussen, in 1921, chose to all but omit her from the records of his explorations and interviews despite the fact that she could have given him a unique perspective as an Inuk situated between cultures and worlds.
