Opulent, luscious and vast, M. Eileen Murray’s paintings vividly evoke dreamlike environments of home and domestic beauty underscored by the allure of luxury. At the same time they also gesture, somewhat uncomfortably, towards the excesses that a consumption-based society can induce. Reminiscent of the glitter and opulence of an 18th century baroque palace such as France’s Chateau de Versailles translated into the almost-attainable modern home, the magnificence of the paintings is balanced with the elusiveness of our memories of home, our inner desires and needs. M. Eileen Murray received her Masters of Fine Art from the University of Saskatchewan and her Bachelor of Fine Art from the University of Lethbridge. She has exhibited her work in solo and group exhibitions throughout Alberta and Saskatchewan and maintains her studio practice near Brooks, Alberta.
