Margriet Hogue's newest exhibit is called Lines and Shadows. Her mixed-media paintings are inspired by the natural world; the contours of the land, the distressed surfaces, and the colours of the different seasons which are brought into her art. Her process starts with numerous layers of paint and paper which are distressed through sanding, scraping or gouging, and she's responding to what is revealed from below. The physical nature of paint and other materials used will lead to unpredictable qualities that are an important part of her work.
In addition to her traditional 2D work, recently she's been adding and or joining together different sized and depths of panels to add another dimension, taking on a sculptural quality. She also will have some wonderful 'assemblages", which are painted wood blocks decorated with found objects mounted on legs which evokes the sense that they are a sacred vessel.
