Marisa Kriangwiwat Holmes & Douglas Watt: Infinity Ball

This is the world’s most reflective ball.

This ball was in the mouth of a drooling Great Dane, laying poolside between shots with the star. 

There was a transparent ball that promised to superimpose games onto the world.

We’re only 4 balls away.

On my walk home I can see nine glistening balls hanging from the ceiling, rotating in a way that is steady and epic.

Those remind me of some others, hand painted and hovering above my sister’s second grade musical.

There is a Christmas gift that only I could have bought for myself. 

It would have kept rolling forever if the sales associate hadn’t put his foot on top.

Oh and the huge foil ball that split like a pant seam, mid-A Midsummer Night’s Dream. 

My hamster clearly had a ball and space station.

There was one that could have destroyed the entire bookstore.

Not related to its own clairvoyance - it ricocheted. 

At least one ball is home to a fuchsia kingdom dedicated to eternal love. 

Each has its own dress code, certainly.

Marisa Kriangwiwat Holmes (b. 1991) is a Hong Kong-born artist based in "Vancouver, Canada." Her practice involves sourcing and scanning photographs and found objects to create painterly compositions with clear photographic subjects. Recent solo and two person exhibitions include My Owns, Project Native Informant, London (2021); Everything Leaks, Polygon Gallery, North Vancouver (2020); Open Heart Run Off, Sibling, Toronto (2019); Keep Your Eyes On Your Prizes, Calaboose, Montreal and ddmmyyy, Artspeak, Vancouver (both 2018). Select group exhibitions have been held at the Royal Academy Antwerp, Access Gallery & Centre A, Vancouver (all 2017). In 2020, Holmes was long listed for the New Generation Photography Award from the National Gallery of Canada and was the winner of the Second Annual Lind Prize in 2017. Holmes graduated from ECUAD with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography & a Curatorial minor in 2017.​

Douglas Watt (b. 1990) is an artist living and working in Vancouver on the unceded and traditional territories of the Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh people. He received a Bachelor of Arts (Art History) from Carleton University, Ottawa and studied Criticism & Curatorial Practice at OCAD University, Toronto. Previously, he has curated exhibitions by Prynce Nesbitt at Niagara Artists Centre, St. Catharines; Michael Snow [Timed Images] at Greenbelt Gallery, Toronto and KAMLINKS at Skylight Gallery, Vancouver. Watt recently presented a solo exhibition Deep End Epiphany at Downs & Ross, New York and participated in the group exhibition Spirit Off at Yaby, Madrid, Spain.
