Following her conversation with Laura U. Marks, Martine Syms will be back in Vancouver on November 19 for two events that expand upon her moving image works, and situate Borrowed Lady within this practice.
At 3PM Syms and Audain Curator Amy Kazymerchyk will lead a tour and discussion about Borrowed Lady in the gallery. This tour is part of the Downtown Vancouver Gallery Tours, and follows a 2PM tour of the Contemporary Art Gallery’s exhibition Guillaume Leblon: Untangled Figures by Director Nigel Prince.
At 7PM Syms will present The Unreliable Narrator, a screening of six of her single-channel moving image works in the Djavad Mowafaghian Cinema. The program will include: My Only Idol Is Reality 7:06mins (2007, 7:06), Lessons (2014–2016, 15:00), A Pilot For A Show About Nowhere (2015, 24:29), Memory Palace (2015, 2:06), Notes on Gesture (2015, 10:30) and She Mad: Laughing Gas (2016, 7:00). Syms will introduce the program and take questions and answers following it.
