Michael Nicholl Yahgulanaas was born in 1954 in Masset, Haida Gwaii. His work has been a key part in changing the way we think about Indigenous artwork given his contemporary approach. Through means of mixed media, sculpture and even repurposed auto parts, Michael communicates contemporary themes such as environmentalism, the human condition, and identity through a new lens.
Michaels work has been exhibited internationally in places such as the British Museum, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Seattle Museum of Art and the Vancouver art gallery.
Michael's diversity of media and influences come from many different regions and styles are a direct reference to his discussions of identity found in these works.
