Jane Gateson has been painting since the mid 80’s and works out of her studios in Winnipeg and Victoria Beach, Manitoba. She uses various techniques and mediums to create her paintings. For some, she paints with acrylics on canvas. For others, she uses cold wax and oil applied in layers on wood panels. She has also been exploring collage and mixed media.

For this exhibition, Jane is using buildings metaphorically to describe people and their lives. Both buildings and people have an exterior view that is open to everyone to see. The inner story is often entirely different. In her paintings, building, nature and the shapes and colours of abstraction, all speak of the gifts of joy and sorrow that each part of life can bring.

After Jane completed her BScHEc, she majored in art while taking her BEd degree. She has studied under many great teachers including, Nikola Bjelajac, Milos Milidrag and Janice Mason Steeves. While attending the intensive Art West Artist Retreat near Clear Lake she has studied with Diana Thorneycroft, George Glenn, Steve Guthro, David Garneau and Michael Boss.

Jane is a member of the Manitoba Society of Artists, The Group of 8 Artist Salon, MAWA and is on the board of In Plain View Winnipeg.
