Faster-Than-the-Speed-of-Light Fun at the Gallery for Culture Days Manitoba and Nuit Blanche Winnipeg
The Winnipeg Art Gallery (WAG) is planning the party of all time for Nuit Blanche Winnipeg and Culture Days Manitoba on Saturday, September 28. Gallery admission will be free from 11am to 5pm. The Gallery will re-open from 6pm to 2am for Nuit Blanche@WAG, a free, all-night celebration of contemporary art with music, film, and crafts for everyone.
Event Details:
· Admission to the WAG is FREE from 11am to 5pm for Culture Days Manitoba. Doors reopen for Nuit Blanche Winnipeg at 6pm and the FREE, all-night celebration runs until 2am.
· In Kent Monkman’s newly opened exhibition Shame and Prejudice: A Story of Resilience, the artist’s alter ego, Miss Chief Eagle Testickle, leads you through nine chapters of Canada’s history, starting 150 years before Confederation.
· Be transported with time travel-themed short films from Sisler High School in the Muriel Richardson Auditorium thanks to a partnership with On Screen Manitoba and Freeze Frame Media Arts Centre for Young People.
· Check out an authentic DeLorean vehicle in Eckhardt Hall, as seen in Back to the Future.
· Dance yourself right out of the space-time continuum on the rooftop with tracks from local DJ Miz Shutterfly.
· At the snack bar, fuel up on tasty tacos for all-night energy.
· Visit our Maker Station to create a bespoke time turner necklace inspired by the magic of Harry Potter’s Hermione Granger, or collage a personalized clock and set it to your favourite time.
· Strategize your play at the free video game arcade.
· Also on view: Androgyny by Norval Morrisseau; Highlights of Inuit Sculpture; Small Worlds: Inuit Miniature Sculpture; The Inuit Art Centre Project; Carving Out a Tradition; Salon Style: Reimagining the Collection; Tony Scherman: Heroes, Ghosts, and Dreams; John Paskievich: The North End; Rooftop Sculpture Garden.
· Nuit Blanche@WAG is a free event. Visitors may pay $10 to jump the line, which moves at the same pace as the general line, but will be shorter. WAG members may skip the line for free.
Nuit Blanche@WAG brings the community together for an exciting evening of fun and creativity. The whole building is alive with activity and WAG exhibitions offer a fantastic canvas to celebrate contemporary art.
