October First Thursday at The Fort Gallery
to
Fort Gallery 9048 Glover Road, PO Box 685, Fort Langley, British Columbia V1M 2S1
On the first Thursday of each month, The Fort Gallery hosts a variety of visual artists, writers and poets, and musicians from the local community who share their gifts and creations. On October 6th, we are pleased to welcome local electric violinist Dan Huget.
Playing an electric violin that looks straight out of Star Trek, Dan continues to push the boundaries of the violin. His new name, neo V I O, clearly sets the agenda by transcending the past and setting out for unexplored musical realms. With state of the art sound processing, the sound of his instrument can transform from edgy electric guitar distortion, up-right bass, traditional eastern Serengi, mellow synth pads and more. On-the-fly recording allows one violin to transform into a duet, then a power trio and on to a symphony of harmonies. Given all these sonic possibilities, it should come as no surprise that Dan’s performances distill new fusions while cutting across musical genres. Mix in powerful improvising and you can trust that every neo V I O performance is an original.
Also featured at this month’s First Thursday are gallery artists Don Portelance and Zuzana Vasko, who will talk about their work in our current exhibit “Precarious Spaces”.
The Fort Gallery thanks the Township of Langley for sponsorship of First Thursday community arts events.
